Final decision at VHP meet: Singhal

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI FEB. 9. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) would abide by the decision of the ``dharam sansad'', which would meet in New Delhi on February 22 and 23, on the Ayodhya issue, the VHP International Working President, Ashok Singhal, told the media here today. "We would abide by its decision, which we consider as final."

He, however, denied that the issue was being raked up with an eye on the coming Assembly elections in some States. ``There would be elections several times in a year. They are in no way related to the present issue." But the sants did not want the issue to be mixed with politics. ``There was no one between the sants and the VHP."

The VHP was only a spiritual force. But it would be forced to take up the cudgels to preserve `dharma'. Parliament could enact a legislation to hand over the site to the Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas, but the BJP, though aware of the facts, was not willing to cooperate.

Mr. Singhal said it was impossible to keep the Ramjanmabhoomi issue ``out of the ambit of administration''. The Government was only a custodian of the 67 acres of acquired land in Ayodhya and should hand over the specified portion to the winner of the original suit pending in the courts.

The superfluous part should be given to the ``original owners''. Since the Nyas has not accepted any compensation for the alienated land, the VHP expected the Government to hand it back to the trust to build a Ram temple there.

He said he was not happy with the NDA Government's performance,

Mr. Singhal rubbished the ``ideas of Aryan invasion'' and race divisions in the Hindu society as that of the ``unfortunate British legacy''. The Vidwat Parishad, comprising sadhus and sants, would meet soon to evolve a social order to eradicate untouchability, he said.
