Indian executed in Qatar

Dubai March 11. Arun Abraham, sentenced to death last September by Qatar's Shariah court for killing his Indian colleague, was executed by the firing squad in Doha's central prison yesterday morning, media reports said today.

Abraham, a Malayalee Christian who had converted to Islam while in jail, was visited by a cleric who told him he would soon be approaching his `akhera' (the other life), The Peninsula newspaper said.

The Shariah Appellate confirmed the death sentence on him last September for murdering Lija Abraham on April 26, 2001. He had confessed to the crime.
