Rich tributes paid to Ambedkar

The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, and the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, paying homage to B.R. Ambedkar on his 112 birth anniversary at the Central Hall of Parliament in New Delhi on Monday. — PTI

NEW DELHI APRIL 14. Rich tributes were paid to parliamentarian and constitutional expert, Bhimrao Ambedkar, on his 112th birth anniversary.

Floral tributes were paid to his statue in the Central Hall of Parliament by the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson, Najma Heptullah, the Leader of the Opposition, Sonia Gandhi, and members of Parliament, Manmohan Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Ram Naik, Vijay Goel, C.P. Thakur, Satya Narain Jatiya and Sanjay Paswan. The Union Ministers, Suresh Pachaouri, Ramji Lal Suman and Ramdas Athawal, were present.

The secretaries-general of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, G.C. Malhotra and Yogendra Narain, also offered flowers at Dr. Ambedkar's statue.

A booklet containing the profile of Dr. Ambedkar, brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries. The statue was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament by the then Prime Minister, V.P. Singh, on April 12, 1990.
