Rudolph, Dippenaar in record partnership

CHITTAGONG April 25. South Africa's rookie batsman Jacques Rudolph and Boeta Dippenaar smashed superb centuries on Friday on way to a record-breaking partnership and a huge first innings lead against Bangladesh on the second day of the first Test here.

In hitting his unbeaten 170, Rudolph overtook compatriot Andrew Hudson's century and highest 163 runs on the debut he made in 1992 against the West Indies.

Rudolph and Dippenaar (131) featured in an unbroken 323-run stand, tumbling the 1999 South African record of 315-run partnership held by Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs. They also became the first South African pair — and the seventh in the game's history — to bat throughout a day without being separated.
