Reserve seats, Muslim institutions urged

Bangalore May 8. The Chairman of the Minority Department of the KPCC, Mohamed Obaidulla Sharieff, has urged the Muslim minority professional colleges to reserve seats for Muslim students in their institutions.

In a statement, Mr. Sharieff said Muslim students from the State were not getting their share of seats in the professional colleges run by Muslims as the managements were treating the community as an all-India minority.

They were admitting Muslim students from throughout the country.

Mr. Sharieff welcomed the decision taken by the Government on seat sharing in respect of unaided minority educational institutions.

The Government should stick to its decision that the minority institutions reserve 25 per cent of their seats for their own community candidates.

He said the selection of students should be through the CET and not through examinations conducted by the institutions.

In Andhra Pradesh, all the seats were filled through a common entrance exam.
