High school students boycott classes

VIZIANAGARAM JUNE 25. Under the aegis of Students Federation of India, students in all high school in the town boycotted classes on Wednesday, took out a rally and staged a dharna at the mandal revenue office demanding infrastructure facilities, repairs to school buildings, immediate release of pending textbooks and filling of vacant teacher posts. The SFI district general secretary, G. Srinivas led the rally and organised the dharna.

Feeding centres opened

The Agency for Sustainable Rural Development and Relief has started five feeding centres for the drought-affected tribal children on the other side of Thatipudi reservoir in the district. One of the feeding centres was opened on Tuesday at Addateega village by the Project Officer of Integrated Child Development Department, G. Chandra Sekhar. He thanked the agency for feeding malnourished tribal children. The centres are located in eight tribal villages and would be run for 60 days, according to a release on Wednesday.

Filaria prevention

IN view of the increasing filaria cases in the district, the Medical and Health Department, under the aegis of National Filaria Control Programme, local unit, launched Mass Drug Administration of DEC here on Wednesday. The programme was inaugurated by the DM & HO, B.A. Ramaiah. The Deputy Director (Filaria), Jaganmohana Rao, Visakha Zonal Officer, Rama Rao, and the District Malaria Officer, Raghava Rao, were present.
