KGMCTA backs strike

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM July 4. The Kerala Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA) today expressed solidarity with the State-wide boycott of classes by medicos on Saturday to protest against the alleged indiscriminate sanctioning of self-financing medical colleges. In a statement here, the KGMOA leaders alleged that the Government was misinterpreting the SC directive on sanctioning self-financing colleges and befooling the public by resorting to a steep hike in fees and privatisation of the medical education sector.

The KGMOA pointed out that scores of posts remained unfilled even during the peak of infectious diseases. Promotions remained frozen in spite of the convening of the departmental promotion committee, recruitments from the PSC ranklist to the non-clinical posts in anatomy, bio-chemistry and physiology were yet to be made and backdoor appointments of MSc holders were made overlooking the waitlist of MD degree holders, the KGMCTA alleged.
