Bangalore July 10. The engineering major, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), began an exercise in improving the quality of medical services for its employees with a two-day conference of human resources and medical heads of the company, which began here on Thursday. The conference, inaugurated by the Director (HR), Ishan Shankar, is deliberating on cost-effective quality health services for BHEL personnel, including those retired from service. The responsibility is more on the company which is the only PSU to figure in the top 10 best employers in the country, in a survey conducted by Business Today and the international consultants, Hewitt Associates. Medical services provided to BHEL employees have recorded a satisfaction level of 95 per cent. The new measures planned to bring cost effectiveness include e-procurement and bulk procurement of medicines and medical equipment, and extending services in company-owned hospitals to the general public.
