Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the news item, "History will forgive us, says Blair" ( July 19 ). History will never forgive George Bush and Tony Blair for their horrendous act in Iraq. It is most unfortunate that both the U.S. and the U.K. embarked upon a highly unwarranted war, without the United Nations' approval. The world has neither forgotten nor forgiven William Kaiser II, the King of Germany, who was responsible for the eruption of the First World War. The war killed 13 million people and permanently maimed 7 million. Similarly, the world has not forgiven Adolf Hitler who caused the death of 6 million Jews during the Second World War. C. Paramarthalingam, Madurai, T.N. * * * Sir, Although we might have decided not to send our troops to Iraq, we need to take some strong steps to define our role in a unipolar world. We need to advocate a U.N. resolution and send our troops to Iraq under the U.N. peacekeeping force. This does not mean we support the action of the U.S. and the U.K. but it will show our compassion. It will also help in our quest for a permanent seat in the U.N. Security Council. Sridhar Rajappan, Dallas, Texas
