Firemen dousing a fire that burnt a section of the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on Monday. AP
The fire was brought under control within half-an-hour and the GCA president, Narhari Amin, who is also the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the accident would not cause any impact on the first cricket test match between India and New Zealand scheduled for October 8. Mr. Amin said the fire was caused by sparks while welding the giant scoreboard. Discarded fibre chairs dumped outside the stadium caught fire. The first test match was recently shifted to Ahmedabad from Kanpur where the pitch was found unfit for the match.
