Second place for Indian student in physics olympiad

MUMBAI Aug. 11. An Indian student, Yashodhan Kanoria, has been ranked second in the International Physics Olympiad that concluded in the Taiwanese capital, Taipei, on Sunday. The Indian team picked up two gold, one bronze and two honourable mentions.

While Shaleen Harlanka of Udaipur, Rajasthan, bagged another gold, Shashank Dwivedi of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, secured a bronze. Alekh Agarwal of Bhopal and Divjyot Sethi of New Delhi received honourable mentions.

The team was led by Ravi Bhattacharjee of the SGTB Khalsa College of Delhi and S.C. Sumanta of Midnapore College, Midnapore. The Olympiad programme is conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education based in Mumbai.

For Yashodhan Kanoria, a student of the Ruparel College here, this is the second Olympiad gold. Last month, he won a gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Greece, said Prof. Arvind Kumar, the national coordinator of Olympiad Programmes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
