Participating in the programme, the vice-chairman of the Sanmar Group, N.Kumar, said despite the entry of Information Technology, shorthand skills were still required in the industrial sector for accuracy. He distributed diploma certificates to candidates who took examinations in various shorthand courses. Commending the guild's services, the editor-in-chief of The Hindu, N.Ram, said such institutions played an important role in imparting knowledge about shorthand and typewriting through several courses. The Guild was performing a useful function, despite the increasing role that the IT was having in the educational arena. The president of the guild, S.V.Ramaswamy, participated.
