Copyright case arguments to begin on Aug. 27

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE AUG. 23 . The arguments in the case pertaining to the infringement of copyrights filed against the 20th Century Fox Corporation will begin on August 27. The arguments follow the three-day video presentation made by the city-based plaintiff, NRI Film Productions, before the District Principal and Sessions Court. The plaintiff has pointed out at the alleged infringements committed by the corporation in its blockbuster movie, "Independence Day".

In a suit filed against the corporation in 1998, the Managing Director of NRI Film Productions, Ved Nayak, contended that the corporation had infringed on his copyrights while producing "Independence Day". He said that while he filed for copyright for his script, "Extra-terrestrial Mission" in 1986, "Independence Day" was released in 1996.

During the three-day video presentation that concluded on Thursday, the plaintiff pointed out similarities between the "Independence Day" and "Extra-terrestrial Mission". The plaintiff claimed that 19 infringements had been committed by the corporation.
