Maharashtra seeks Rs. 1,373 cr.

MUMBAI SEPT. 22. The Maharashtra Government has sought Rs. 1,373 crores and two lakh tonnes of foodgrains from the Centre as drought relief. Talking to presspersons here today, the Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde, said he had written a letter to the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, seeking Central assistance. He had also requested the Centre to send a team to visit the affected areas to assess the drought.

The State Government would give 66 per cent concession to the villages that got less than 50 per cent yield in the last two years and 33 per cent to those which suffered such a loss of crop in the last one year.
