PJR sweeps Voltas union polls

HYDERABAD NOV. 7. The former CLP leader, P. Janardhana Reddy, scored a landslide victory in the elections to the Voltas Workers' Union, bagging 604 votes over the nearest rival, G. Sanjiva Reddy, president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), who got only 84 votes.

While the total number of votes was 829, the votes polled were 818. Others who contested the elections were Naini Narsimha Reddy, a representative of the alliance with the Telugu Nadu Trade Union Congress (50 votes), Narasimha Reddy of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (53 votes) and Bhaskar Sharma of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (26 votes).

After the results of the secret ballot were announced, the Voltas factory workers celebrated the victory by taking him out in a procession.

Mr. Janardhana Reddy thanked workers for reposing faith in him.
