The Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Narayana Murthy, sharing a lighter moment with the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, at a function held at the Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.

HYDERABAD Nov. 7. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday underlined the need for checking infant mortality rate in the State in the wake of the thrust being given to small family norm in a big way. He also asked the medical fraternity to be wary of criticism on alleged negligence leading to infant deaths coming from various quarters.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a Rs. 3-crore golden jubilee millennium block of the Niloufer Hospital, the State's premier institute of child health, being funded by software giant, Infosys.

Mr. Naidu said it was only when wealth was wrested in the hands of honest people that some good to society can come out of it. "What use is wealth if it is not useful to the welfare of society," he wondered and commended the Infosys family for the great gesture.

Sudha Narayana Murthy, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation, chose to highlight the Infosys maxim - less talk alone would lead to more work.

The Health Minister, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, replying to a question raised by the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattatreya, announced that the Centre had recently sanctioned Rs. 100 crores for upgrading the NIMS in the city on a par with the AIMS. Mr. Dattatreya said that it was his dream to see a premier hospital of AIIMS standards coming up in the city, but the proposal was kept in the backburner as it was considered that Hyderabad already had a string of premier medical institutions. The Commercial Taxes Minister, K. Vijayarama Rao, the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, the Asifnagar MLA, D. Nagender, the hospital superintendent, N.C.K. Reddy, and senior officials were present.
