Telugu Desam puts up show of strength

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL DEC. 11. A massive rally preceded the Telugu Desam Party's district convention here on Thursday. Sinking differences and overcoming the ego clashes, the TDP MLAs in the dissolved Assembly and party leaders spared no efforts to make the rally a grand success. The plans of the police, who wished to keep the crowd beyond the barricades and allow only the convoy to pass on the main road, went awry as the dancing and slogan-shouting activists ignored the pleas of the police.

After landing at the Girls High School, B. Camp, the Chief Minster, N. Chandrababu Naidu, halted briefly at the TTD Kalyana Manatapam for a wash and got into the flower-bedecked truck along with his Ministerial colleagues, MLAs and party functionaries from the district. People cheered the Chief Minister and other leaders from the district as Mr. Naidu continuously flashed the victory sign. The rally reached the venue after one and half hours.

The organisers meticulously planned to make the event a gala show by pressing into service several pairs of music bands, scores of artistes and cultural troupes. Platforms were erected at different stages to welcome the leaders and provide non-stop entertainment to public. As the convoy of vehicles passed through Maddurnagar, Budhawarpet and other places people from the surrounding areas gathered at street corners to have a glimpse of the leaders.

Party workers from Nandyal and Allagadda, mainly the supporters of the MP, Bhuma Nagireddy, chose to walk past the convoy to attract the attention of the leaders. The rally had a choking effect at points where the roads were narrow.

At the end of the rally, the district leaders remarked that they could convince their supremo that the party was going strong in the district.
