Back Petrol, diesel prices go up

THIS new year, consumers will have to shell out Re 1 to Rs 1.20 more per litre of petrol and diesel, as prices across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai have been hiked from midnight today.

The prices will vary from State to State as per local taxes. From January 1, a litre of petrol will cost Rs 33.70 in Delhi up Re 1 from the existing Rs 32.70. Consumers in Mumbai will witness the maximum price increase of Rs 1.09 at Rs 38.83 against Rs 37.74. Chennai will see petrol price going up by Rs 1.08 at Rs 36.79 against the earlier Rs 35.71. And in Kolkata, petrol price has been hiked by Rs 1.04 to Rs 36.61 in place of the existing Rs 35.57.

Mumbai will also see the maximum price increase in case of diesel, which will be dearer by Rs 1.20 to cost Rs 27.43 per litre against Rs 26.23. Delhi will witness the price increase of Re 1 at Rs 21.73 against Rs 20.73, while in Chennai, diesel will be priced at Rs 24.23, up Rs 1.12 against Rs 23.11. Diesel will be costlier by Rs 1.05 in Kolkata at Rs 23.99 compared to the existing price of Rs 22.94.
