NCW to probe 'gangrape'

AHMEDABAD, JAN. 17. A team of the National Commission for Women arrived here today to conduct an `independent investigation' into the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old girl on New Year's eve, who later committed suicide.

The team, comprising the NCW chairperson, Purnima Advani, member, Nirmala Sitaram, and counsel member, Jalil Ahmed, visited the girl's family.

The team ascertained `minute details' of the case, the incidents that led to the victim's suicide on January 7 by hanging and also met several neighbours.

Mediapersons were not allowed to attend the meeting.
