Byrasandra Lake to be developed

BANGALORE, JAN. 17. The Byrasandra Lake would be developed soon at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, the Minister for Bangalore Development, Ramalinga Reddy, announced here today.

Addressing a gathering after reviewing the development works in the wards coming under the Jayanagar Assembly segment, Mr. Reddy also spoke of building sidewalks around the Jayanagar Shopping Complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.

During his tour, the Minister visited Swagat slum and Gulbarga slum, and promised that under ground drainage, water supply, road construction, and streetlight works would be taken up soon.

Mr. Reddy said sufficient allocation would be made in the BMP budget for the integrated development of all the wards. The package would include asphalting of roads, desilting of drains, and relaying of sidewalks, he said.

He later visited the Kittur Rani Channamma Stadium in 3rd Block, Jayanagar, and disclosed that a non-resident Indian had agreed to fund the works which were in progress at the stadium.

The Minister inaugurated a newly developed park, a children's playground, and a primary school in Ward 60, Pattabhiramnagar division. The Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, was present.

Earlier, Mr. Reddy heard the grievances of the public at Jayanagar Cultural and Citizens' Association and went round Shalini Park, G.N.R. Playground, Tilaknagar, LIC Colony, Vambey slum, and received memoranda from citizens.

The Minister was accompanied by the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, G. Basavaraj, the leader of the Opposition in the BMP Council, Syed Jamil Ahmed, the Town Planning Chairman, Udayashankar, the Taxation and Finance Committee Chairman, K.S. Samiullah, the local corporators, N. Nagaraj, B. Somashekhar, M. Muniraju, and S.K. Venkatesh, and the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner, M.R. Srinivasmurthy, besides the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman, M.N. Vidyashankar, and senior BMP officials.
