Television showroom, scientist's house burgled

BANGALORE, JAN. 17. Thieves broke into a television showroom and a scientist's house in the city on Friday and made away with cash and gold ornaments.

The police said that the thieves entered a television showroom on 100 ft. road in Jeevanbima Nagar by breaking open the rear door, and took away Rs. 45,000 in cash. The manager of the showroom, Sathyan, has lodged a complaint with the Jeevanbima Nagar police.

In another incident, thieves made away with cash and gold ornaments from the house of G.B.S. Datta, a scientist with ISRO, at ISRO Layout in Airport police station limits.

The police said that the thieves entered the house by breaking open the lock of the main door when Dr. Datta and his wife had gone to work.

The theft was noticed after the couple returned home from work in the evening.

Sandalwood tree cut

Thieves felled and took away a sandalwood tree from the Watch Factory Colony in HMT Layout in Jalahalli police station limits on Friday night. The Jalahalli police have registered a case.

Man dies in mishap

Vishwaradhya (32), a resident of Muthkur village near Hesarghatta, was killed on the spot when a BMTC bus dashed against his moped near Bagalagunte on Hesarghatta Main Road around 9.30 p.m. on Saturday.

The police said that Vishwaradhya's niece, Soumya (13), who was riding pillion suffered serious injuries and she had been admitted to a private hospital.

The Peenya Traffic police have arrested the bus driver and seized the vehicle.

Man murdered

A construction worker, Balamurugan from Tamil Nadu, was allegedly murdered by his relative, Velu, in a house in MICO Layout police station limits.

According to the police, Velu allegedly hit Balamurugan with an iron rod in a fit of rage during a quarrel on Thursday. Balamurugan died at NIMHANS on Friday.

The police have arrested Velu on a compliant by the victim's wife, Geeta.
