Back FPBAI joins hands with global bodies for copyright protection

THE Federation of Publishers & Booksellers' Association in India (FPBAI) is joining hands with various international associations to fight against copyright piracy in India.

The President of FPBAI, Mr S.C. Sethi, said that the Rs 7,000-crore Indian publishing industry is facing severe copyright infringement problems. "Pirated books account for around Rs 300 crore - Rs 350 crore annually which results in a loss not only for the author and the publisher but the Government also loses revenue," he said.

In order to create awareness among the masses, the federation is planning to organise programmes in cities such as Chennai, Patna, Chandigarh, Jammu and Merut during the course of the current year, he said.

The federation is taking up the issue of copyright protection with the Government through the Copyright Clearance Agency of India (CCAI) and if necessary is ready to move the Supreme Court as well, he said.
