Back Encourage pvt universities, ICFAI tells State

THE Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) University has urged Andhra Pradesh and other States to encourage private universities and to pass the necessary laws, keeping in mind the University Grants Commission guidelines for the purpose.

At a press meet here on Thursday, Mr R. Prasad, the dean of ICFAI National College, and Mr K. Seethapathi, Dean, ICFAI University, said even newly-formed States like Chhattisgarh had passed the Private Varsities Act and Andhra Pradesh and others should follow suit.

They said that even at a conservative estimate there would be a need for creating an additional 8-10 million college seats in the next decade. "At present, the country has 10,000 colleges with a capacity of 8 million students and this would have to be doubled.

"Therefore, the resources of the Government would not be sufficient for the purpose. As in the US, UK and Canada, a dual university system would have to be introduced," they said.
