NEW DELHI, FEB. 25. A Delhi police Inspector posted as Additional Station House Officer in a North-East Delhi police station has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant in lieu of taking action in his case. He was arrested from within the police station premises itself. According to the CBI, the ACB received a complainant from a person saying Inspector Mukhtiyar Singh Sanga, Addl. SHO (Khajuri Khas), was demanding Rs. 15,000 from him for taking action in connection with his complaint. The complainant had been beaten up and threatened by some persons a few days ago. Mukhtiyar, who had himself worked in the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi police from 1999-2001, was aware of the trap procedures and had asked the complainant to meet him with the money in the police station itself. He had asked him not to bring anybody along, or discuss the matter over telephone. Nevertheless, the complainant approached the CBI and a trap was laid at Khajuri Khas police station on Tuesday. Following his arrest while accepting a part of the bribe amount, the CBI conducted searches at his residence and office. While Rs. 99,300 was recovered from his residence, Rs. 6,000 was recovered from his office drawer. A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and the accused has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Further investigations in the case are on.
