THE banking sector is eyeing small-scale industries, a sector that has largely remained in the background.

The Indian Banks' Association, along with the small-scale industry, is meeting officials of the Finance Ministry in a bid to revive sick SSI units.

Central Bank of India has taken a lead in organising a two-day business summit in Mumbai, on Friday and Saturday, which will bring together big businesses and small-scale industries on a common platform.

The idea is to give opportunities to leading corporate clients of the bank to interact with small-scale industries, ancillary industries and tiny industries, said Mr Dalbir Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, Central Bank of India, at a press conference here on Thursday.

He said the small-scale industries are finding it difficult to raise their quality standards to global benchmark levels, and one of the reasons is finance.

Some of the leading industrialists who will attend the summit include Mr Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director, Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd and Mr Venugopal Dhoot, Chairman and Managing Director, Videocon International Ltd.
