Opinion - Letters to the Editor

The IIM issue

Sir, — The private sector has always brushed aside as mediocre or sub-standard anything to do with the Government.

But it was the Government that created expansive and expensive infrastructure for six IIMs, five IITs and many other high institutions of learning. Due to the popularity of the IIMs, there has been a proliferation of business schools, with impoverished infrastructure. These B Schools with less than 30 per cent of the IIMs' infrastructure, charge fees as high as Rs.4 lakhs.

With an overall fee reduction, all these institutions will fall by the wayside for good, leaving the country with only genuine institutes.

C. Gopalakrishnan,
Chennai
