IRINJALAKUDA, APRIL 25. Defending champion Kozhikode retained the title in the boys' section of the 24th State sub-junior handball championship at the Christ College ground here on Sunday. In the final, Kozhikode staged a fine recovery after the first half to edge out Kannur 15-14 in extra-time. Kannur led 8-6 at half-time but both teams were level at 14 at the end of regular time. For Kozhikode Marshal and Vijesh shared 12 goals while for Kannur Ranjith and Jayasuraj (six each) did the bulk of scoring. Idukki defeated Thiruvananthapuram 8-4 to take the third spot in the boys' section. Kannur dethroned Kollam 15-3 to take the girls' title. Rekha (nine goals) did the star turn for Kannur which led 8-2 at the interval. Thiruvananthapuram finished third after defeating Kottayam 7-4.
