Youth murdered

BANGALORE, MAY 1. A gang of youngsters allegedly murdered a 24-year-old man near a restaurant at Marenahalli in Vijayanagar on Saturday. The police said the victim, Suresh, son of Muniraju, went to a restaurant to collect the daily instalment Rs. 100 from its owner, to whom he had reportedly given a loan of Rs. 10,000.

He was trying to call the owner of the restaurant around 7.30 p.m. when a gang of four young men armed with weapons assaulted him.

He was left in a pool of blood. The victim was shifted to Victoria Hospital, but he was declared brought dead.

Fire at hospital

Property worth over Rs. 2 lakh was damaged in a fire at the Command Hospital on Airport Road early on Saturday.

Electric short circuit is said to be the cause of fire which was noticed around 5 a.m. Six fire tenders put off the fire by 8.30 a.m.

Jewellery stolen

Thieves cut the straps of a vanity bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs. 80,000 and made away with the bag at the Kempe Gowda bus terminus on Friday. The bag belonged to Jyothi Naik.

The police said the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when Naik and her father were boarding a BMTC bus, Pushpak-276.

Houses burgled

Thieves broke into the flat of Usha Kiran at Sneha Apartments Complex in Vijayanagar on Friday and made away with cash, gold ornaments, and silver articles, all worth Rs. 1.35 lakh.

The police said Kiran, a Canara Bank employee, had left the house around 4.30 p.m. On her return around 9 p.m., she found the house burgled. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case. In another incident, Rs. 20,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs. 60,000 were stolen from the house of M. Usha in HMT Layout on Thursday night.

Chain recovered

Three persons snatched a gold chain from Chandrashekar who was swimming at the BMP swimming pool in RPC Layout in Vijayanagar police station limits on Friday.

The police said around 1.30 p.m., the three persons got into the pool and surrounded Chandrashekar. They assaulted him and snatched his chain worth Rs. 5,000. Chandrashekar came out of the pool and chased the miscreants.

With the help of security personnel, he managed to catch two of them, who were later handed over to the Vijayanagar police.

The police recovered the chain from the accused who were identified as Nawaz and Wasim.
