Back APPCB to fund Asian Paints green project Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 10 THE Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has decided to fund an environmental project at Asian Paints plant at Patancheru near here. The project, `Ultra filtration of Apcolite machine colourant (AMC) wash water for recovery of pigments', had been selected under the `Cleaner Production Programme.' Wash water is generated during equipment cleaning. The Asian Paints project will reduce an estimated 30 litres a month, besides conserving raw material and reducing sludge. ``The ultra filtration technology ensures physical treatment of wastewater without addition of chemicals and also facilitates the recovery and reuse of pigments. The process will also result in a substantial cost-saving for the company,'' said Mr Sabyasachi Patnaik, Factory Manger, in a press release. The project, which was inaugurated by Mr R.M. Gonela, Member-Secretary of APPCB recently, will make AMC manufacturing a zero discharge process. APPCB had sanctioned a grant of Rs 4.4 lakh for the project. A panel comprising technologists from APPCB, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute and the Environmental Protection Training and Research Institute evaluated the proposal.
