Back IA starts inquiry on missing gold Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 10 INDIAN Airlines has started an internal inquiry into the mysterious disappearance of over 20 kg of gold being transported on its flight from Mumbai to Delhi on May 7. Official sources indicated that the inquiry would focus on whether there have been any lapses in the system which is already in place in the state-owned airline. "The airline already has a foolproof system in place, yet this shocking incident has occurred. The inquiry will look at where, if at all, things went wrong in a well-placed system which has been successfully operating for the past 50 years," sources indicated. The airline has a multi-layered system to ensure that precious cargo arrives safely at the final destination. Officials, however, refused to spell out details saying it could prejudice both the inquiry and investigations which are being carried out by the police. Meanwhile, although the airline has already suspended two of its employees for the incident, sources indicated that the suspension is because a preliminary inquiry showed that they did not exercise enough caution while dealing with the cargo and not as proof of their involvement in the case.
