Back Bannari to foray into refined sugar production L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , May 17 BANNARI Amman Sugars Ltd is planning to foray into production of refined sugar. Having completed the trial run, the company is all set to commence commercial production of the product very soon. The sugar producing major is in talks with pharmaceutical companies for supply of refined sugar bags. Speaking to Business Line, the Bannari Amman Group Chairman, Mr S.V. Balasubramaniam, said that the company had invested Rs 6 crore on this project and proposed to produce 1,000 bags (of 50 kgs/bag) of refined sugar on a daily basis. Sugar refining is the process of extracting the sugar (sucrose) from the plant material and then removing other unwanted materials from the extracted raw sugar. The refined sugar production is being taken up at the company's Sathyamangalam unit in Erode district. The company, which is into production of white crystal plantation cane sugar has two units - at Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu and at Nanjangud (Mysore district) in Karnataka. The cane crushing capacity in the two units is of the order of 7,500 tonnes of cane crush per day.
