NEW DELHI, MAY 27. Kiran Walia, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission of Women and Hauz Khas MLA, hit back at her opponents today accusing them of trying to damage her reputation within the party and the constituency. She also demanded that the party leadership initiate strict disciplinary action against the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president, Anjana Kanwar, for indulging in a malicious campaign against her own party MLA. Threatening to file a defamation suit against Ms. Kanwar for making mischievous and misleading charges against her, Ms. Walia urged the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Delhi leadership to take cognisance of the extremely irresponsible and unbecoming conduct of Ms. Kanwar. "It is unfortunate that in the politics of power struggle, Ms.Kanwar had fallen to such petty levels and did not hesitate to even enact a fraud to get back at her opponents,'' she said, adding that Ms. Kanwar had wrongly stated that Ms. Walia had been seen on a leading television channel touching the feet of the former Union Minister and BJP leader, Sushma Swaraj. It was later found on examination of the news clippings that the person Ms.Kanwar termed, as Ms. Walia was a known BJP worker whose identity had also been ascertained. Ms. Walia said she had also brought the mater to the notice of the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and even the DPCC president, Chaudhary Prem Singh. In fact, Ms. Walia said it was a well-known fact that she was s strong opponent of Ms. Swaraj and had even gone on record strongly protesting the utterances of the BJP leader against the Congress president on the issue of her foreign origin and becoming the Prime Minister of the country.
