THE Nandesari industrial estate, housing hundreds of chemical and petrochemical units in Vadodara saw the second accident over the past three days when four employees were killed in an explosion at Vasudev Chemicals on Monday.

The fire that gutted a portion of the factory followed a high pressure reactor getting ruptured. The factory was engaged in the manufacture of para amino phenol, a fine chemical used in drugs and pharmaceuticals.

Mr Bhagyesh Jha, District Collector and Chairman of the Emergency Disaster Management cell at Vadodara, told Business Line that all precautions had been taken to ensure that the fire did not spread to nearby factories in the crowded industrial belt, adjoining which is the koyli area with major units such as the Gujarat Refinery and IPCL.
