Unscheduled power cuts the order of the day

NEW DELHI, JUNE 8. Almost the whole of South, East and West Delhi experienced long hours of unscheduled load-shedding today. Power supply to several parts of the city had not been restored till late tonight.

The BSES officials claimed that the power cuts were due to tripping of crucial transmission lines in the wake of a storm in the afternoon. Four 220 KV transmission lines (Mandola-Patparganj, Bamnouli-Papankalan, Bamnouli-Najafgarh and Bamnauli-Vasant Kunj line) of the Delhi Transco tripped at 12-10 p.m.

They claimed that the whole of South, West and East Delhi was affected and supply was restored only at 2-35 p.m.

Further due to tripping of 220 KV BTPS-I.P. Extension line of the Delhi Transco at 5-55 in the evening, Defence Colony, South Extension, CGO Complex, Hudco Palace, parts of Nizamudin, Lajpat Nagar and adjoining areas were plunged into darkness. Power could not be restored in these areas till late in the night.

While conceding that crucial transmission lines tripped during the day, Delhi Transco officials said that long hours of power cuts were due to local faults. "We quickly restored the system," the official said.

Meanwhile, the BSES announced load-shedding in Karol Bagh, Ajmal Khan Road, Manak Pura and adjoining areas on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. due to maintenance work at the Faiz Road Grid substation.
