Chargesheet filed in paper leak case

NEW DELHI, JUNE 8. The Crime Branch of the Delhi police today chargesheeted all the 12 accused in the Central Board of Secondary Education-conducted All-India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) paper leak case of this past April.

The chargesheet was filed in a Karkardooma court for Crime Branch cases under Sections 120B, (criminal conspiracy) 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Confirming the filing of the chargesheet, the Joint Commissioner of Police, B.K. Gupta, said the Crime Branch would file a supplementary chargesheet in the case to include the names of those accused against whom investigation had not yet been completed.

The Anti-kidnapping Section of the Crime Branch had busted the racket on April 10 following a tip off that a gang was about to leak papers of the pre-medical test conducted by the CBSE.

Acting on the tip-off, the Crime Branch sleuths had raided the flat number B-15 in New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi and arrested two of the accused -- Vikas Verma and Rakesh Verma - red-handed while distributing hand-written copy of the test papers to 13 appearing candidates.

Of the thirteen candidates who were found collecting the hand-written copies of the test papers for a price between Rs 5 and 7 lakhs, seven were from Ganganagar in Rajasthan, five from Delhi and one from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Five of them were female candidates, the chargesheet said.

During their interrogation, the accused had disclosed that that their plan was to confine the candidates in the flat till they left for the examination centres. They were supposed to memorise the answers to the questions there only. This arrangement was made to make sure that no one other than them could get the papers, which would also ensure that the police did not come to know about the copied out papers, the chargesheet said.
