Five rank holders from BEST college

BELLARY, JUNE 11. "Hard work, encouragement from my parents and good coaching by my teachers enabled me to clinch the first rank in the engineering and second rank in the medical section in the non-Karnataka category of the Common Entrance Test (CET)," says Abhishek Bhothra, student of the BEST Residential School and College in Bellary, about his success.

He said he was eager to become a doctor. Abhishek, son of Hastimal and Sheeladevi, secured 76 percent in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination and 89 percent in Pre-University College examinations.

He scored 100 percent in Chemistry.

Four other students from the same institution have secured ranks in the CET. Says Lakshmi Manoj Kashyap, who has obtained 97th rank in medical and 228th rank in engineering, "I have also written the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and am awaiting its results."

Navin Chandra secured 127th rank in engineering and 156th rank in medical.

Jyotsna M. secured 1018th and 1401st rank in engineering and medical, respectively.

Hema G. secured 2024th rank in engineering and 1137th rank in medical.

The chairman of the BEST institution, K. Ramappa, told presspersons that students of his college had won laurels for the three-year-old institution. Of the 221 students who appeared for the PUC examination, 181 had passed with nine distinctions and 85 first classes.

Mr. Ramappa said that in order to encourage meritorious students, the institution had been providing free education to students who secured 600 and above marks in the SSLC, 50 percent concession to those students securing marks between 590 and 600 and 25 percent concession to those obtaining 85 per cent marks.

The secretary of the institution, M. Srinivas, said that three new courses — B.Ed., Dip.Ed. and General Nursing — would be introduced from the current academic year.
