BANGALORE, JUNE 11. The Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, on Friday slapped a fine of Rs. 1,500 on a liquor shop owner for getting garbage dumped into a storm water drain at Venkateshwara Badavane of BTM Layout.

The Mayor, who was on a visit to BTM Layout and Madiwala wards, noticed a person dumping garbage in a drain. When the Mayor found that the garbage was from "Shuba Wines Shop," he immediately made the jurisdictional Health Officer slap a fine and collect it on the spot. He also warned the shop owner of stricter action if he continued dumping garbage in the drain.

The Mayor, who noticed water leaking from a pipe on the 36th cross in BTM Layout, immediately summoned the jurisdiction Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chief Engineer, Nagendra, and directed him to get the leak plugged at the earliest.

The residents of 1st and 2nd stages in BTM Layout complained about the mosquito menace and overflowing of drains in the area. The Mayor directed the BMP officials to get all drains in the area desilted and make way for free flow of rainwater.

"This is a newly added area. Please ensure that all the drains here are desilted and prevent mosquito breeding," he told the officials.
