RAW officer commits suicide

NEW DELHI, JUNE 13. An assistant field officer with the Aviation Research Centre (ARC) of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) allegedly committed suicide in the storeroom of its two-storey guesthouse near Palam Airport in South-West Delhi on Saturday. No suicide note was found at the spot.

The deceased, Ajay Markery, was earlier posted with the Dumduma branch of ARC at Tinsukhia in Assam. He was recently transferred to the Delhi branch after which he came here by train on June 9. He took an auto-rickshaw from the railway station and forgot some of his belongings in the vehicle while getting down at the ARC guesthouse.

A tense Markery reported for duty the next day. One Saturday around 7-45 p.m., he was found hanging from the ceiling of the storeroom of the guesthouse, which is located on the ground floor of the building. The police were informed about the incident around 10 p.m., following which they initiated inquest proceedings into the matter. However, they are yet to make out as to why exactly Markery took such an extreme step.

Hoping to know something from his family, they are waiting for their arrival here. The police would perhaps also try to find out whether the luggage that Markery forgot in the auto-rickshaw contained anything important.
