Chief Minister asked to intervene

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 24. The district committee of the Left Democratic Front has urged the Chief Minister, A.K.

Antony, to intervene to retain the marine aquarium and research centre at Vizhinjam. In a statement here today, the convenor of the LDF district committee, V. Gangadharan Nadar, said the aquarium should be expanded and retained at Vizhinjam.

Exemption sought

The Kerala Building Designers' Organisation has demanded that the capital should be exempted from the `green zone' restrictions in view of the development works initiated by the Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority and the Government. In a statement here, the president, Kaudiar Harikumar and the secretary, Mahesh K. Pillai said that the exemption of isolated plots below 10 cents from the `green zone' alone would enable the completion of the overall development of the capital.

Education workshop

The Centre for IP Management of the Institution of Engineers (India) is organising a two-day education workshop on patents, designs, trademarks and copyrights from July 16 in the capital. The institution has decided to honour select inventions and inventors whose patented inventions have been transferred to industries and successfully commercialised. Patented documents satisfying the above conditions should be forwarded to the Honorary Secretary with supporting documents before July 7, a release here said.

Date extended

The last date for submitting applications for admission to the first year VHSE course has been extended to June 28, for the benefit of students who have been declared to be successful in the SAY examination 2004 and also for those who are desirous of applying afresh.

The rank list of applicants will be published on June 29 and all the admission formalities are to be completed by the following day.

Seats vacant

A few seats are vacant in the Biology and Computer Science streams at the Holy Angels' Convent Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram. Those interested should contact the school office immediately, according to the principal.

Move welcomed

The film fraternity in the city and the All Kerala Video Library Owners Association have welcomed the decision of the Jamaath to ban the sale of pirated CDs of Malayalam films on the Beemapally premises.

Award

The first `Sramaratnam' award instituted by the National Association for Science and Arts for encouraging private entrepreneurs has been bagged by the Director of Computech Publishers, C.S. Harikumar, according to a release here.
