Orders on Nedunchezhian plea reserved

BANGALORE, JULY 14. The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday reserved orders on an appeal filed by V.R. Nedunchezhian of Tamil Nadu seeking discharge from the cases registered against him.

The appellant, a resident of K.K. Nagar in Tiruchirapalli, said he was a professor of Tamil in Thanjavur University and that he was charged with offences under Sections 120 (B), 121, 121 (A), 122, 123, 123 (A), 123 (B), 129 (B), 124 (A), 153 (A) and 153 (B) of the IPC and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908, Section 5 read with Sec 9 (B) of the Explosives Act, 1884, and Sections 3, 7, and 25 of the Arms Act, 1959.

The chargesheet claimed that between 1996 and 2002, Prof. Nedunchezhian entered into a conspiracy to disturb the peace in the State, to create a separate nation and to support the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader, V. Prabhakaran. The appellant said he was being kept in prison under mala fide assumption. His bail application was rejected by a Fast Track Court, Bangalore, on June 10, 2004. Justice S.R. Bannurmath reserved orders on the appeal.
