SINCE ITS establishment in 2003, Sri Kempegowda Adhyayana Peetha of the Bangalore University has organised several academic programmes in memory of the city's founder. As a first step, the Chair organised a national seminar to recapture some of the events linked to Kempe Gowda. Eminent scholars on the subject contributed their research papers while other experts threw in ideas aplenty.

To tide over the dearth of material, sources and documents related to Kempe Gowda, the Chair took up an ambitious project to collect all the data and to publish the same.

"Considerable progress has been made on this front. Two of the four volumes are completed and are likely to be out shortly. The remaining volumes will be ready in three months," says the Chair's coordinator, M. Jamuna.

Under the Chair's programmes, two exhibitions were held, one on the life and times of Tipu Sultan and another on the architectural and sculptural marvels of the State.

The Chair now plans to set up a museum and a library-cum-documentation centre. It intends to make a documentary on the historical sites of the Yelahanka Nada Prabhus and undertake research projects on the irrigation system of the times, stratification study of Bangalore, growth of religious and philosophical ideas in the State, architecture of minor dynasties of Karnataka, political economy of post-Vijayanagar Karnataka, besides holding a seminar and symposia.
