Back SBH to restore monument Our Bureau
HYDERABAD: The State Bank of Hyderabad will spend Rs 6 lakh to restore the Gunfoundry monuments, close to its head office buildings in the heart of the city, to its past glory. Gunfoundry is a protected monument of the Department of Archaelogy & Musuems with a built up area of 220 square metres and an open area of 605 square metres. It houses one of the several underground cannon and cannon-ball factories set up in 1786 by the French General, Monsier Raymond, who was in the service of Nawab Mir Nizam Ali Khan, the Second Nizam of Hyderabad. The SBH plans to restore and preserve the monument and convert it into a tourist-friendly `Cannon Park', according to Mr P. Dinakara Rao, Chief General Manager, who inaugurated the conservation works on Monday. - Our Bureau
