BANGALORE, JULY 19. The Department of Fisheries has warned of stringent action against mechanised fishing boat owners who venture into the sea for fishing on July 21. This comes after a report in a section of the press stated that purse seine boat owners had decided to commence fishing on July 21 in violation of the Government's ban on fishing from June 10 to August 15. The Deputy Director of Fisheries in a statement today said fishing during the ban period was illegal as per the Marine Fisheries Act of 1986. Fiishermen taking up fishing activity between June 10 and August 15 would lose all concessions, including diesel subsidy and exemption of Central excise duty, the statement said.
