Four policemen dismissed

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 19. In a stern action taken in the wake of dereliction of duty and indulgence in criminal acts, four Delhi Armed Police (DAP) personnel have been sacked from the police service in connection with the escape of an undertrial and the kidnapping-cum-rape of a woman this past week.

Two DAP constables from IIIrd and VIth Battalions, Gyanender and Yashpal, were dismissed on Friday night for their suspected involvement in the escape of an undertrial, Jitender, from their custody. The constables were entrusted with the job of taking Jitender alias Kalla, an accused in a double murder case, to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for medical examination after being produced in a Patiala House court.

Later they were found in an unconscious state in a park.

The duo claimed that Jitender offered them cold drinks after drinking which they passed out. But on the basis of the circumstantial evidence, the senior officers found that they were involved in the escape, following which both were dismissed.

In another case, a DAP head constable and a constable, who along with four of the accomplices kidnapped a woman from Kalkaji in South Delhi and criminally assaulted her at Ghaziabad, following which they demanded money from a person claiming to be her husband for her release, have also been dismissed. The Head Constable, Lokenderpal Singh, is from IIIrd Battalion, while Constable Sanjay Singh is from VIth Battalion.

It is learnt that after their dismissal, all the DAP staff have been told to desist from any such act that might jeopardise their career.
