Back New members appointed for Telecom Commission

THE Government today filled up the posts of members of the Telecom Commission, which was lying vacant following retirements and superannuation of the sitting members over the last two months.

Mr K.L. Jain has been appointed as member (Technology) and Mr Arun Saxena as member (Services) in the Telecom Commission.

Mr B. Sivaramakrishnan has been appointed as member (Production), an official statement said here.

The post of member (Finance) will be filled up soon.

This will speed up some of the important policy decisions awaiting approval of the commission, including issues relating to tele-density, measures to bridge digital divide, revamping of New Telecom Policy and strengthening of public sector units such as BSNL, MTNL, ITI under the Department of Telecom.

The key policy on broadband and Internet is also awaiting the approval of the commission.

The commission, which is the apex institutional framework for taking major policy decisions for the telecom sector, comprises a Chairman, a post held by the DoT Secretary, and four full-time members.
