Back Kerala: Town planner held for graft

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance Department has registered a case in the Special Court here against the former Chief Town Planner, Mr P. Ramachandran, accusing him of having amassed wealth totalling Rs 47.53 lakh, which was `disproportionate to his known sources of income'.

Earlier, a Vigilance team had arrested the official from his office here on March 17 while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 in marked notes for granting sanction for construction of a shopping complex.

According to the first information report (FIR) filed in the court, records relating to the acquisition of landed property, shares and debentures of various companies, savings deposits in various banks, flexi-bonds, remittances to various chitties and insurance policies were seized in a raid conducted on the house of the accused. Gold jewellery had also been seized from a bank locker.
