Back Indal net rises 60 pc; exports up 36 pc Our Bureau
Kolkata , July 30 INDIAN Aluminium Company Ltd (Indal) claims to have achieved the best ever performance in terms of sales and profits during the first quarter of the current fiscal following fundamental improvement across all operating parameters. Net sales/income rose eight per cent at about Rs 410 crore (against about Rs 380 crore in the same quarter last year), while profit before tax was higher at Rs 70.8 crore (Rs 37.5 crore). Net profit also reflected a substantial rise of over 60 per cent at Rs 40.8 crore (Rs 25.5 crore). Exports grew 36 per cent at about Rs 140 crore compared to about Rs 103 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2003-04. Operations on alumina chemicals posted a significantly higher first quarter performance in terms of profitability. Aluminium sheet recorded eight per cent higher production at 19,658 tonnes (18,235 tonnes). Extrusion production was around 12 per cent higher at 2,435 tonnes (2,177 tonnes). Domestic sales and exports of foil registered a sharp rise following the increased usage of foil packaging by major pharmaceutical companies.
