Hafizur upsets Maria Irudayam

NEW DELHI, JULY 31. Two-time world champion Maria Irudayam was surprised by Hafizur Rehman of Bangladesh 14-15, 24-3, 24-11, but the India `B' team recorded a 2-1 victory over Bangladesh in a zone `A' match of the eighth SAARC carrom championship sponsored by the Tivoli Gardens at its Resort here.

Nataraj beat K.G. Humayun Kabir 19-5, 17-4 and Dilip Khedekar defeated Mohammed Ali 25-0, 24-18 to help the Indian team win the match after Irudayam's defeat.

The results: Men: India `B' bt Bangladesh 2-1; Maldives bt Nepal 3-0; India `A' bt Nepal 3-0. Women: India `A' bt Nepal 2-0; India `B' bt Maldives 3-0; Sri Lanka bt Bangladesh 2-1.
