Back Uniform weights rule likely Our Correspondent
MADURAI: A unifom enforcement rule for implementation for the weights and measurement industry is under the consideration of the Central Government, Mr P.A. Krishnamoorthy, Director, Legal Metrology, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, has said. Addressing the 22nd anniversary of the Tamil Nadu Weights and Measures Manufacturers, Dealers and Repairers Association, held in the city, he said the present system of States having their own rules posed problems in enforcement. A uniform licence system is also under consideration, in which, a licence obtained in one State would be applicable in all other States. An amendment to the Weights and Measures Act is also being contemplated. A committee has been set up to recommend changes, taking note of the latest equipments such as a mobile road weighbridge, flow meters, pollution instruments, energy meters, LPG and CNG equipment etc. Electronic weighing machine would be made mandatory. Initially, shops with an annual turnover of Rs 10 lakh-15 lakh would be asked to use such machines, he said.
