`Multiple regulators delaying MBA/MCA admissions'

CHENNAI, AUG. 15. The Association of Management of Private Colleges has expressed concern over the ``continued stalemate'' in admission to MBA/MCA courses in arts and science colleges.

In a press statement here, the association president, M. Aruchami, faulted the ``multiple regulators'' such as the All-India Council for Technical Education, the State Government and the Permanent Committee for the Conduct of CET, and their varied interpretation of laws regulating the admission process for the delay.

Maintaining that merit should be the sole basis for admissions, Mr. Aruchami said relying on the TANCET scores would seriously undermine merit. He said these programmes were being offered at the IIMs, universities, engineering colleges and even open universities and under distance education system. Aiming at achieving uniformity in the admission process in these institutions would be difficult. Instead, the AICTE should make efforts to upgrade the syllabus, he said.

While the deemed universities and university departments had already completed the admission process and started classes, a large number of students expecting admission to other institutions are clueless when counselling and admission would be completed and classes begin.
